Our Philosophy
Drs. Harris, O’Connell, Seikaly and Biron have the combined experience that comes from treating a large number of patients with cancers and other head and neck and thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Patients that come to The Head & Neck Clinic find an atmosphere that strives to provide patients with the highest quality care.
Patients and family members communicate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, support staff and allied health professionals. This team approach is designed to give patients and their families information and insight into all aspects of the care they will receive.
Doctors, staff and patients discuss the entire scope of treatment — from diagnosis to surgery, reconstructive procedures, follow-up care and quality of life implications.
Here is an example of one component of our Head & Neck Clinic that manages urgent needle biopsies:
Quality of Life
Our philosophy goes beyond helping patients in their battle to beat cancer. Our goal is to do everything possible to help patients have the best quality of life, living as fully and functionally as possible in the years following their treatment.
Restoration and reconstruction of the areas affected by cancer are a part of the treatment plan from the initial consultation. We recognize that patients have significant concerns regarding how they will look, feel and function following their treatment.
The multidisciplinary treatment team is made up of specialists in Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery), Head & Neck Surgery, Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery, Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Facial Aesthetic Surgery. Expert nutritional counselling, pain management, as well as speech and swallowing therapy, is incorporated into your rehabilitation following surgical treatment.
Each member of our treatment team is equally important in ensuring patients the best treatment outcomes. All members of the team understand their and everyone else’s role in treatment and rehabilitation, which is one of the main reasons we have had a high rate of successful outcomes, even in the most challenging of cases.
